Finding Purpose Through Difficulty

Finding Purpose Through Difficulty

“And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick.” Matthew 14:14

In the first few verses of Chapter 14 we find that Jesus learns of the beheading of John the Baptist. John was, not only the forerunner of Jesus, he was also a family member. He was the cousin born just six months prior to Jesus. No doubt, as children, they probably ran around the fields stirring up dust and playing with the sheep and other kids around them. I wonder how many times as teenagers they worked by the sweat of their brows doing work for their families.

Devotion – Eternal Glory

Eternal Glory

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.”
(2 Corinthians 4:17 NIV)

Troubles and trials are only temporary! In fact, this verse tells us they are momentary. Compared with eternity, our troubles won’t last long at all! When you stand strong in faith during the difficult times, you are building faith in your life and also achieving eternal glory.

If you are in the middle of tough times today, look to God. The Bible says that He is the Author and Finisher of your faith. He is the one who writes faith on your heart and then develops it to completion on the inside of you. Your part is to open your heart and choose those words of faith and victory.

Devotional – Flourish Like a Palm Tree

Flourish Like a Palm Tree

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree…”
(Psalm 92:12, NIV)

Have you ever seen a palm tree in the midst of a great storm? That tree may be bent so far over that it’s almost touching the ground, but when the wind finally stops, that palm tree bounces right back up. What’s interesting is that while that palm tree is hunched over under the pressure of the storm, it is actually becoming stronger.

See, the reason God said we’d flourish like a palm tree is because He knew there would be difficult times. He knew things would come against us to try to steal our joy and victory. But God said, “You’re going to be like a palm tree because when the storms of life blow, you are going to come right back up stronger than before.”

“Wonderful Day in Worship”

This past Friday, Oct. 31, we had a wonderful time of worship in our weekly in-house worship service. We had around 30-35 residents take part in our worship service this week. We are blessed to have a resident of 100 years of age to bless us with playing the piano during our worship songs. This week we sang: “Because He Lives,” “On Jordan’s Stormy Banks,” “Are You Washed in the Blood,” “When We All Get to Heaven,” and we closed the service with one we all know, “Amazing Grace.” Our Chaplain brought the encouraging message from Psalm 31:24, “Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord.” The message title was, “Courage to Change”. We had a wonderful day in worship.

Chaplain’s Corner Services

Each Friday we have Chaplain’s Corner, our in-house worship service at 2:30 p.m. We meet at the dining room in our facility and typically have around 30 residents who attend our worship service each week. We have a resident who is 100 years old and plays the piano. She enjoys it as much as any other resident. She says, “I now know what my purpose is in being here. Even at 100 years of age.”

This past Friday, we had a wonderful time together in song, word and fellowship. I opened the service by reading from Psalm 67, and then we sang “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms,” “Love Lifted Me,” “Just a Closer Walk With Thee,” “Send the Light,” and we closed the service with “How Great Thou Art”. Our message was titled “Just Keep Walking.” The verses we used were Genesis 5:21-24 and Genesis 6:8-9. In both of these scriptures, Enoch and Noah walked with God. With Enoch, God took him out of the world, and with Noah, God destroyed the world around him. But in both cases, the Bible tells us that they both walked with God. The residents were so uplifted and we had a wonderful time together. We have heard many positive reports from this past Friday’s worship service.
